Synopsis

Twenty-five-year old Mathieu has always aspired to become a famous author. It's a dream which seems inaccessible because, despite all his efforts, he has never managed to be published. Meanwhile, he earns his living by working for a moving company. His fate takes a new turn the day he stumbles across the manuscript of an elderly and solitary man who has recently died. At first Mathieu hesitates, then finally decides to plagiarize the text and pretend he wrote it. He becomes the bright new star of French literature. Everyone is now eagerly anticipating his second novel, and as each day passes and pressure mounts, Mathieu plunges ever deeper into a criminal spiral of lies in order to keep his dark secret hidden.

Press Reviews

"'A Perfect Man' is a clever and elegant film with acknowledged references such as René Clément's 'La Piscine' or Claude Chabrol's 'Le Boucher'. A thriller with a Hitchcockian atmosphere that leaves one disturbed."

TF1 News - 15/03/2015

"The strength of the actor allows him to carry on his shoulders this somewhat convoluted story that is not without recalling the mysterious charm of Patricia Highsmith's novels (The Talented Mr. Ripley). Niney perfectly conveys the constant anguish of a man who has based his existence on lies and lives in fear of being exposed."

20 Minutes - 18/03/2015

"'A Perfect Man' gradually slides into a thrilling genre film. Pierre Niney ('20 ans d’écart', 'Yves Saint Laurent'), the ideal son-in-law whose deceit plunges him into a Hitchcockian spiral, at times has something of Alain Delon from Plein Soleil."

GQ Magazine - 17/03/2015
