Synopsis

The Americans and their NATO allies have pledged to leave Afghanistan by 31 August. The Taliban offensive is advancing steadily towards the city. While French, Italian, German and American diplomatic and military personnel were preparing to leave, the Nazany family was in denial about the situation. But within hours, Kabul fell to the Taliban. It was 15 August. While the panicked population rushed to the French embassy - the only one still open - or to the international airport, the Western services tried to impose order on the gigantic chaos, to save what could be saved. Scattered across the city, in the grip of panic and chaos, the Nazany will have to fight to flee, to find themselves... and to survive.

Press Review

"When the producers Cinétévé and 24 25 Films presented us with this project just two years ago, we knew straight away that we were looking at an extraordinary series, one that would stand out for its artistic rigour and the impact of its subject on our collective memory. Our partners ZDF and RAI Fiction from the European Alliance were also quick to point this out enthusiastically. The fall of Kabul was a political event and a major human tragedy in the summer of 2021.

The authors, Olivier Demangel and Thomas Finkielkraut, have succeeded in setting an organically international series to music with force and emotion. They have multiplied the points of view on these last historic days of the capture of Kabul by the Taliban and its evacuation by Westerners and the Afghans most in danger. At the heart of this story is an Afghan family that we follow throughout the series, highlighting the tragedy of the situation, the fight still to be waged for Afghan women, and Western diplomatic dilemmas.

Manuel Alduy, Director of Film, Young Adult and International Drama"
